Matanuska River Valley
Our destination is the Matanuska Glacier, the largest accessible glacier in Alaska. The glacier winds down from the Chugach Mountains and is four miles wide at the terminus where it forms the Matanuska River. We camp at the base of the glacier for two nights at what many of our clients say is their favorite camping spot! The glacier is within walking distance and local guide services offer ice trekking and ice climbing trips.
This is one of the best places to experience a glacier up close.
